The Road to Bozeman: Day 1

We left off in our last post with the group ready to head out on their journey to Chicago. As day 0 turned into day 1, it was smooth sailing on their road to Bozeman with the exception of a minor strap malfunction. “It sounded like a transformer eating our car,” said David about the loose ratchet strap. After making a few pit stops, they finally made it to Chicago (in good time too).

They were happy about their decision to leave so early, which gave them 6 full hours to spend in beautiful downtown Chicago. They got in about 8:30 AM and their first stop was to see the famous “Bean” sculpture in Millennium Park. Their day in Chicago could not have been any better with the sun shining and perfect temperature. The group’s next stop was Navy Pier and to then to eat Giordano’s, for some famous Chicago deep dish pizza. Before leaving Chi-Town, they paused to look back at the city from the beach of Lake Michigan just one last time.

Finally after a day of taking in the Chicago sun, the guys packed back into their vehicle and started west for Maquoketa Caves State Park in Iowa. With it being rush hour, the group had a little set back trying to get out of Chicago. But after about 2 hours of stop-and-go traffic, they were able to set sail for Iowa. Arriving around 9 pm to the park, gave them just enough time to set up camp, fill their stomachs, and get some good sleep.

Overall it sounds like they had a good first day of their journey. They had a couple ups and downs, but like Peter says in the video, that’s what they signed up for. Tomorrow, the guys will be heading west to go see the spectacular Badlands, stay tuned!
