Campfire Baked Apples
- 1 large apple (sweet tart and firm like a Sweet Tango) per person
- Brown sugar
- Cinnamon
- Butter
- Orange juice
- Aluminum foil
- Cut the top ½ inch or so from the apple. Set aside.
- Carefully cut out the core and seeds while leaving the apple intact.
- Fill the cavity with butter, brown sugar, and cinnamon.
- Set apple in center of two square sheets of aluminum foil.
- Place top back on apple.
- Begin to fold the foil up around the apple to form a bowl.
- Pour some orange juice over the apple, allowing it to pool a bit in the bottom of the bowl.
- Wrap the foil the rest of the way up around the apple and loosely seal – it doesn’t need to be airtight, just hold in the juice.
- Place the wrapped apple at the edge of the coals of the campfire and turn often for 30-40 minutes.
- Remove from coals when the apple is softened.
- Allow to cool a bit, then serve in foil packets and with ice cream if you like!
