If you long for nights where you can prod and play with a pile of burning wood – this isn’t a tip for you. On the other hand, if your idea of a relaxing night by the fire involves stacking wood, and lighting it once – we’ve got a method that’s right up your alley. It’s called an Upside Down Campfire – and if done correctly, requires no fire maintenance.
The trick to a successful Upside Down Campfire, is to start with the largest of your firewood on the bottom of the pile. In a traditional campfire, you’d start with the smallest kindling and tinder on the bottom – working your way up to adding larger logs as the fire burns. Using the Upside Down method, you’ll build your fire base in a log-cabin fashion. Adding the smaller wood criss-crossed as the fire builds up, eventually adding your kindling and tinder to the top of the fire. Get it started even quicker with our favorite firestarter.Â
