I always love a little dessert after dinner, it usually doesn’t matter what it is as long as it satisfies my sweet tooth. Even when out camping it is nice to have something. I have made this dutch oven monkey bread a few times and everyone has loved it. Plus it is easy to make, which is the real plus!
After a long day outdoors whether you are hiking, playing in the water or geocaching it is nice to relax, cook a nice meal and have a warm dessert to top it all off. I have recently been using my dutch oven more and have come to truly love making meals in it. It takes some time to get the hang of keeping the temperature even but once you do, the dutch oven works slick. For this recipe it is best to use around 7-10 coals on the bottom and 12-14 on the top.
I usually try to prepare recipes at home before I leave for camping but this recipe is definitely simple enough to do at the campsite. If you wanted to do any preparation you can combine the sugars and cinnamon in a bag so you don’t have to measure at the campsite. If you would have no way to melt butter (camp stove, in pan over campfire), you could also melt that at home and keep it in a container.

- 2 rolls of Pillsbury biscuits
- ½ cup sugar
- ½ cup brown sugar
- 3 Tbsp cinnamon
- 1 stick butter, melted
- Spray dutch oven with cooking spray. I would recommend lining the oven with foil and coating with cooking spray.
- Chop biscuits into quarters. Mix sugar and cinnamon in plastic bag. Drop each quarter into bag and shake to coat well.
- Place the mixture in the dutch oven.
- In a separate pan, melt the butter and pour over biscuits.
- Bake at 350 degrees for 35 minutes. Check around 30 minutes to see if the dough is done.
